The Authority of the Believer, Part 2, Lester Holland

As a believer you have been given authority in this earth over the works of God’s hands and over all the power of the enemy.

Recap from Part 1

  1. Recognize that satan is the source of your opposition and stand your ground.
  1. Know that satan is a defeated foe.

He is your enemy but he is a defeated enemy. He is not a lion. He walks around like a lion roaring seeking someone to devour.

He has been disarmed. He has been defeated. He has been dethroned. Jesus embarrassed him in front of all his cohorts, and in front of heaven, earth and hell.

We are called by God to undo all his works wherever we go. We have The Blessing in us and on us. The Blessing has the power to override the curse wherever we go.

That is why God never sent you to that place, to be poor like them. He sent you there, so they can be blessed like you.

Satan cannot do anything to you apart from fear, just like God cannot do anything for you apart from faith.

So, you must break the fear connection. You have already been delivered from fear, therefore you must stand your ground and unhook from it. Don’t tolerate it.

Fear tolerated is faith contaminated.

Philippians 1:28 AMPC

And do not [for a moment] be frightened or intimidated in anything by your opponents and adversaries, for such [constancy and fearlessness] will be a clear sign (proof and seal) to them of [their impending] destruction, but [a sure token and evidence] of your deliverance and salvation, and that from God.

So, recognize and always be aware that the devil is a defeated foe. When you speak to him, speak down because he’s under your feet.

  1. Recognize your God-given authority over satan.

When resisting the enemy, always be aware of your God given authority over him.

You must resist him, not God. You must take authority over him, not God. God gave you the authority to do something about the devil.

Luke 10:19 NKJV

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Things will come against you, but it will not hurt you. Weapons will be formed against you, but it will not prosper.

Isaiah 54:17 NKJV

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”

Says the Lord.

After Jesus defeated the enemy in hell, He rose from the dead and said in

Matthew 28:18-19 NKJV

“…All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go therefore…..”

Jesus took back the authority that satan had and handed it over to us.

If Jesus gave you the authority, then He does not have it, and He can’t do anything about it.

K.E. Hagin – Jesus said to him, “If you didn’t do something about that, I could not have done anything about it.”

Mark 16:17 NKJV

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils…

The devil is terrified of that name, the name of Jesus. Your authority lies in the name of Jesus.

Richard Roberts went to the bank to get a loan and they refused until he mentioned his fathers name, Oral Roberts and it was granted to him.

Protect your name.

Proverbs 22:1 NKJV

A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold.

A good name will bring you great riches.

John 16:23-24 NKJV

And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

John 14:12-14 NKJV

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

The devil is totally terrified when a believer who knows who they are, uses that Name.

Acts 19:11-20 NKJV

Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. 13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” 14 Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”

16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

The seven sons of sceva were trying to cast out evil spirits without having the authority of Jesus. They were trying to do what Paul knew to do. Paul knew the authority Jesus gave him, demons were afraid of him, they recognized him, and obeyed when he spoke.

God does not want evil spirits to leap on you, overpower you and prevail against you. He wants you to leap on them, you must overpower them and you must prevail against them because of the authority that He has given to you.

They must flee out of your house naked and wounded.

If you don’t know who you are, then the devil will run right over you everyday and if he is not busy, maybe 2 or 3 times a day.

Illustration

A traffic officer has been given authority by the government to stop and direct traffic. People stop when he lifts his hand because of the uniform that he has on. An ordinary citizen cannot do that because he has not been given authority by the Traffic department. The traffic officer does not have the physical power to stop them but he just stands in his authority and they have to obey.

Likewise with the authority that Jesus gave us, all we have to do is stand in our authority and in our uniform (the armour of God) and the devil will have to obey us when we lift our hand and say “Stop”. We do not have the physical power to stop the enemy but Jesus backs up our words with His power.

17 This became known both to all Jews and Greeks dwelling in Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. 19 Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed.

So begin to use the name of Jesus in prayer, wherever you walk, drive and work. Exercise your authority and take dominion in that place and situation.

We are not here to take sides, we are here to take over.

Smith Wigglesworth mentions a story of a lady who told her small little dog to go back into the apartment. He didn’t until she said, “Get” and he ran. He said, “Now that’s how you have to do the devil.

  1. You must deal with the devil from a cleansed and submitted position

James 4:7 NKJV

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

That word “flee” means “to run as if in terror”. The devil is terrified of you as a believer and he is terrified of the Name of Jesus.

The devil and his demons can be tormented, but only in the presence of Jesus.

He will not maybe flee from you, he will flee from you, but you must be submitted to God.

If you are living in sin and disobedience and rejecting God’s will, practicing sinful activities, then you are no match or threat to the enemy. You are giving him a wide-open door and access into your life and he will take advantage of you.

You can never overcome him on his territory. You deal with him from God’s territory.

Ephesians 4:26-32 NKJV

“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil.

28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.

29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Stop giving the enemy access into your life. Shut the door  and keep him out.
